7.	History of office and office building	- In early 1974 a few Chartered Accountants thought for formation of Asansol Branch under E.I.R.C. of I.C.A.I. Our former President Shri S.K. Dasgupta, FCA, accelerated the idea by holding a meeting with Shri A.B. Bandyopadhyay, FCA, Shri D.K. Dutta and others. Shri Amal Kr. Chakraborty, FCA, former Central Council Member also suitably advised the enthusiastic members in the formation of Asansol Branch. In the year 1974, approval for setting up Asansol Branch was received. - The Branch started functioning in the office of M/s. A. Banerjee & Co., Chartered Accountants, G.T. Road (West), Asansol. The Branch remained in its infancy up to 1987 due to various reasons. There was even a threat of canceling the registration of the Branch. In the year 1988, Mr. A. K. Mitra, FCA; Mr. S. B. Das, ACA; Mr. A. K. Sinha, a few Chartered Accountants took the initiative to shift the office of Asansol Branch in a rented house at the heart of the town, Sri Aurobindo Bhawan, Raimoni Lane, Asansol, so that the members may have easy approach to the Branch. Late Dr. G.R. Mitra, the then Chairman of Sri Aurobindo Society, Asansol Branch provided all help to get the rented premises. - There was a long felt gap of Asansol Branch of not having its own building. This factor restricted the activities of the Branch greatly. Since 1988 we accumulated some fund through collection and by reinvesting in F.D.'s the fund increased. About 15 kathas of land was acquired from Asansol-Durgapur Development Authority, which was registered in April 1998. Shri M. Pal, ACA, Ex-Chairman, Asansol Branch had put great effort in Acquisition of Land. Shri Rahul Roy, FCA, then President of the Institute laid the foundation of the Branch Building on 24.05.1998. In three and half years time the ground floor of the Building had been completed. The delay is due to shortage of funds. The inauguration of the building was done on 30th December, 2001, by Shri N. D. Gupta, the then President of the Institute. The history of Asansol Branch since its formation in 1974 to date i.e., 31st May, 2007 is a history of struggle for its survival, growth and occupying a berth in Chartered Accountants Express. If the actions are honestly performed the end take care of itself.
